One of the biggest strokes of genius within developing our cycle tours has to be the combining of our two favourite things; wine and cycling! Who would have thought that these two seemingly opposed past-times could harmoniously meet in what can only be described as ‘utopia’.
With the opportunity to blissfully pedal through a number of world-renowned wine regions in both Italy and France, we’re sure you’ll find a cycling holiday that suits both your cycling experience and well-trained taste buds among our extensive list of hand-crafted tours.
Italy has recently taken over France as the world’s biggest wine producer (no mean feat. considering the French produce between 7-8 billion bottles a year!). Just 2 of our Italian wine tasting holidays to mention are the Piedmont tour in the North Western region, which coasts through the renowned wine-producing region of Langhe, home to the Barolo, Barbera and Dolcetto.
Alternatively our Tuscan tour takes you amongst the Chianti hillsides, where some of Italy’s noblest wines are produced. Although no longer the world’s biggest wine producer, France is still certainly considered one of the greatest. Our tour from Macon to Beaune, a self-guided cycling holiday, quite rightly offers up a tasting of the famous Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wine of Burgundy.

Wine tasting is not included in the holiday cost, unless it has been detailed
Most wine-cycling itineraries schedule tastings in the afternoon, after the day's main cycling is done. Some include a pre-arranged cellar visit as part of the route. Tastings are typically moderate — a few glasses, not full bottles — so you're never cycling impaired. On bike and boat tours, the boat serves as your designated driver.
Burgundy (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay), Tuscany (Chianti, Brunello), the Douro Valley (Port, Douro reds), Alsace (Riesling, Gewürztraminer), and the Loire Valley (Sancerre, Muscadet) are the top five. Each offers flat or rolling terrain through working vineyards with regular tasting opportunities.
Not at all. Tastings are informal and educational — winemakers enjoy introducing newcomers to their craft. A wine cycling holiday is as much about landscape, food, and culture as it is about wine. No expertise required; curiosity is enough.
Yes. The cycling, scenery, gastronomy, and cultural immersion stand on their own without the wine. Non-drinkers are welcome on all tours — operators frequently host riders who prefer local food, artisan produce, and landscape over wine.
Many vineyards offer shipping to the UK, though costs vary. On bike and boat tours, the boat can store purchases for you. On cycling-only tours, your luggage transfer service may accommodate a few bottles. Some travellers arrange a separate shipment through a wine logistics service.
