Arrive in the charming town of Grein on the Danube, known for its baroque town centre and historic theatre. Depending on your arrival time, take a walk along the river or visit Greinburg Castle before settling in for the night.
Cycle through the scenic Strudengau and Nibelungengau regions, once feared by sailors and now a peaceful stretch of river valley. Pass through villages like Ybbs and Marbach before reaching the gateway to the Wachau Valley.
Take time to visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk before continuing into the Wachau—a region of vineyards, apricot orchards, and riverside castles. Cycle through wine villages like Spitz and Dürnstein, and enjoy a wine tasting along the way. End the day in Krems, Traismauer, or Tulln.

Your final ride leads you toward Austria’s capital. Depending on your starting point and route, you may travel part of the way by train. Arrive in Vienna and toast your journey with a melange coffee and a slice of Sachertorte. Take in St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Ringstrasse, or enjoy a classic Fiaker carriage ride.

Getting to Vienna (start and end of tour)
By plane: Vienna International Airport (VIE) is served by direct flights from all major UK airports, with British Airways, Austrian Airlines, easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair and others flying the route. The City Airport Train (CAT) runs every 30 minutes and reaches Vienna Mitte station in 16 minutes. The S-Bahn is a cheaper alternative, taking around 25 minutes.
By train: Vienna has excellent onward rail connections across Central Europe. From London, flying to Vienna and connecting by train to Grein or other Danube Valley stops is the most practical approach. OBB trains connect Vienna to the Wachau and upper Danube valley several times daily.
By car: Vienna is around 1,200km from Calais, taking approximately 11 to 12 hours via the E40/A4 motorway. Bratislava Airport in Slovakia is also an option, just an hour's drive away, and sometimes offers cheaper fares.
