Guided cycling holiday
Istria, Croatia
Experience the best of Croatia’s Istrian Peninsula on this relaxed e-bike and boat holiday. Each day combines scenic coastal rides, cultural highlights and charming villages, with your comfortable ship serving as your floating hotel. From historic harbours and sun-drenched vineyards to medieval hilltop towns and sparkling bays, Istria offers a varied backdrop for an active holiday at a gentle pace.
Your journey includes daily e-bike rides of 20 to 43 miles, following quiet country roads, converted railway tracks and coastal paths. Along the way, you’ll visit towns like Poreč, Rovinj and Pula, known for their Roman and Venetian heritage. Inland, you’ll cycle through olive groves, rural hamlets and artists’ communities. There’s also plenty of time for swimming, relaxing on deck, or exploring the towns you’ll dock in each evening.
This trip is suitable for e-bike riders of all levels. Standard bike riders should be confident keeping pace with an e-bike group. Accommodation is aboard a comfortable ship, with breakfast and one or two warm meals served daily.
A comfortable mix of flat paths and light hills. Great for riders wanting a scenic, flexible trip without too much effort.
Your holiday begins in the harbour town of Omišalj on the island of Krk. You can arrive independently, with transfers available from Zagreb or secure parking for those driving. Boarding begins from 2pm, giving you time to settle into your cabin and meet the crew. In the afternoon, the boat departs for the island of Cres. Weather permitting, there will be a chance to stop in a quiet bay for your first swim in the Adriatic. By evening, you’ll arrive in Cres town. This peaceful place, with narrow Venetian-style streets and a relaxed atmosphere, is perfect for a gentle evening walk. Enjoy dinner either on board or ashore before your first night on the ship.
After breakfast on board, the ship sails south to the Roman city of Pula. In the afternoon, set off by bike to explore the nearby countryside. You’ll pass through the villages of Galizana and Vodnjan, where local wine and olive oil production thrives, then continue to the fishing village of Fažana before looping back to Pula. The ride is leisurely, offering a good mix of rural roads and coastal views. On your return, you can join an optional guided tour of Pula’s ancient highlights, including the Roman amphitheatre, temples and city gates. Alternatively, take a walk along the waterfront or relax at a café before returning to the boat for dinner and overnight stay.
Today begins with a scenic cruise to Vrsar, once a hideaway for the infamous Casanova. From here, your bike ride follows the lush Limski Canal before heading inland to the peaceful village of Kloštar. The route offers a blend of gentle climbs and forested roads. In the afternoon, you’ll cycle on to the vibrant town of Poreč, where lively promenades and Roman ruins await. Don’t miss the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO-listed gem with intricate mosaics. There’s time for a swim or a relaxed wander through the old town before dinner. Overnight stay is in Poreč harbour, with plenty of evening options to explore or unwind.
This morning’s route takes you inland, following the scenic Parenzana railway path through tunnels and old bridges. The day’s highlight is Grožnjan, a picturesque hilltop village filled with galleries, musicians and stone houses. It’s a perfect place for a coffee and a view across the valleys. The ride continues through olive groves and vineyards, passing through the town of Buje before reaching Novigrad on the coast. This small port town has a relaxed atmosphere and is known for its seafood restaurants and pleasant marina. After the day’s ride, enjoy a peaceful evening in Novigrad.
During breakfast, the ship sails to Rovinj, widely considered one of Croatia’s prettiest towns. Today’s ride is shorter, giving you time to enjoy the surroundings. You’ll cycle through a nearby forest park and along quiet paths by the sea, stopping for swims or photo breaks in hidden coves. The pace is gentle, with plenty of time to take in the scenery. In the afternoon, explore Rovinj’s cobbled streets, colourful harbour and hilltop church. A guided walking tour is available for those interested in learning about the town’s rich history. The evening is free to enjoy the local restaurants or relax on board.
This morning’s ride takes you along coastal trails and forest paths towards Fažana, a cheerful fishing village with a colourful waterfront. After a short break here, continue by bike to Pula, where you’ll board the ship again. From there, enjoy a longer cruise along the coast to Rabac, a small town tucked into a sheltered bay on Istria’s eastern shore. With its white pebble beaches and clear waters, Rabac is an ideal place to swim or simply relax. In the evening, you may want to join the group for a drink at a seafront bar or enjoy a walk through the town before your final night aboard.
In the early morning, the ship crosses back to Krk Island. Today’s final ride begins in Njivice and leads you across the island’s varied terrain. You’ll pass through forests, vineyards and quiet villages before arriving at the bay of Soline, known for its natural mud, rich in minerals. You can stop here for a dip and cover yourself in the healing mud – a fun and memorable experience. The last stretch takes you back to Omišalj, where the ship awaits. This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your group, reflecting on the highlights of your week in Istria.
After breakfast, it’s time to disembark by 9am. Transfers can be arranged if needed. Whether you’re heading home or continuing your travels in Croatia, you’ll leave with a week’s worth of memorable rides, good company and beautiful coastal views.
