The Douro Valley mirrors the Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. An ideal time for cycling here is the spring months (April to June), or, in autumn (September to October) when cooler temperatures combined with the vibrant colours of the valley’s vineyards promise a spectacular bike ride. The terrain is varied, with some challenging climbs through terraced vineyards, encountered on major cycle routes such as the Douro Gran Fondo. Alternatively there are routes along the Douro River Cycle Path for those looking for a more relaxed experience.
