Alentejo enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The ideal time for cycling is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the temperatures are mild and the region is less crowded. This sun-drenched region is tempered by refreshing Atlantic breezes. To the north, the terrain is characterised by marshlands that host an array of birdlife, which then gives way to vast, flat expanses of fertile farmland. Further south and towards the coast, the terrain becomes a little more rugged with hill-top villages, amazing coastal vistas and hidden coves. With a few gentle hills, the terrain of Alentejo is comparatively flat, making this the ideal location for relaxed rides through timeless rural vistas.
