Overview

A short taste of the Veneto, starting on the Venice mainland and finishing in Vicenza, Andrea Palladio's home city. The route follows the Brenta Canal past the countryside villas of the old Venetian nobility, then climbs gently into the Euganean Hills, Europe's largest thermal spa district, before a flat final run into Vicenza.

How to get there

Getting to Venice (Mestre)

By plane: Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) has direct flights from most UK airports with British Airways, easyJet and others. A bus or the Alilaguna waterbus connects the airport to Mestre or central Venice in around 20-30 minutes.

By train: Mestre and Venice Santa Lucia stations sit on the main Milan-Venice line, well connected to Verona, Padua and Vicenza.

Getting home from Vicenza

By plane: Vicenza has no airport of its own. Verona Villafranca (VRN) is around 25 minutes by train from Verona Porta Nuova, itself around 25 minutes from Vicenza, with British Airways and easyJet flights home. Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is a similarly convenient alternative back through Mestre.

By train: Vicenza sits on the main Milan-Venice line, with frequent direct trains to both Verona and Venice.
