The Moselle Valley is a cyclist’s paradise, home to iconic sights like the enchanting Burg Eltz Castle and the charming town of Cochem. Pedal through rolling vineyards, historic wine villages like Bernkastel-Kues, and along the famous Moselle River. With history, culture, and a glass of wine around every corner, it’s an adventure you won’t forget.
Cycling in the Moselle Valley is all about easy-going rides and stunning views. The winding roads through wine territory and sleepy villages make it a perfect spot for cyclists who want to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace. Whilst you will find steep climbs here, Moselle is best known for its smooth, forgiving paths and beautiful surroundings.
Moselle is famous for its Riesling, and you’ll have plenty of chances to sip and savor the local flavors as you ride. With fewer tourists than some other regions in Germany and plenty of charm, this region is all about enjoying the journey, taking it slow, and indulging in the good stuff along the way!
The Moselle region boasts excellent cycling conditions throughout the year. As with most regions in Germany, spring and autumn are particularly pleasant, with mild temperatures to enjoy. Summers are warm but thankfully not extreme, meaning you can still enjoy longer rides without melting. As for clothing, you can’t go far wrong, so long as you bring comfortable, light layers for flexibility, and a jacket for the cooler times you might experience during the day.
Terrain-wise, the Moselle Valley is perfect for all cycling levels. Most routes follow the Moselle River, offering predominantly flat, well-paved paths that are ideal for leisurely rides. While the valley itself is easygoing, detours into the surrounding hills provide more challenging climbs for those looking for a workout. A particularly tough stretch is around the town of Bernkastel-Kues, where steep hillsides and narrow vineyard paths offer a real challenge for the thrill-seekers among you.

We think a visit to Cochem is a must. Here, you’ll find the impressive Reichsburg Castle. Other favourites include the Roman ruins in Trier and the quaint wine village of Bernkastel-Kues.
The weather is great between May and September. An added perk of arriving then is you’ll get to see the vineyards in full bloom and experience the wine festivals along the river.
As well as hotels and guesthouses you’ll find accommodation on vineyards. What could possibly go wrong?!
