Baltic Coast cycling tours & bike holidays

Germany's Baltic coast is a world of wide sandy beaches, chalk cliffs, ancient Hanseatic cities, and forested islands connected by ferries and bridges. Flat cycling, clean sea air, and a relaxed pace of life make this one of northern Europe's most rewarding cycling destinations.

Top Baltic Coast bike tours

Cycling holidays on the Baltic coast follow the flat, well-signed paths of the Ostseeradweg and island cycle networks. Our Berlin to Stralsund and Stralsund to Berlin bike and boat holidays aboard MS Princess combine Baltic coast cycling with the waterways of the Oder and Havel, exploring Usedom, Rügen, Szczecin and Berlin in a single journey.

Why choose Baltic Coast for a cycling holiday?

Germany's Baltic coast has a gentle, unhurried quality that sets it apart from more crowded European cycling destinations. The combination of UNESCO heritage in Stralsund, the drama of Rügen's chalk cliffs (which inspired Caspar David Friedrich's most famous paintings), the sand dunes and imperial spa architecture of Usedom, and the wild, flat landscapes of the Bodden coastal lagoons creates an experience that stays with you. The bike and boat format suits this region perfectly — the waterways do the heavy lifting between stages, and each morning begins on a new stretch of Baltic coastline.

Weather & terrain in Baltic Coast

The Baltic coast has a temperate maritime climate with warm summers (18–25°C) and cool, often windy autumns. Usedom is reputedly Germany's sunniest region, receiving more sunshine hours per year than almost anywhere else in the country. The cycling season runs from May to September.

The terrain is predominantly flat to gently rolling, with the notable exception of some short climbs on Rügen's hilly interior. Paths are a mix of paved cycle routes, country roads with little traffic, and well-maintained gravel tracks through forests and along the Bodden coastal lagoons. The wind can be a factor, particularly on exposed coastal stretches.

Our expert’s fun fact

Rügen is Germany's largest island and home to the Jasmund National Park, whose chalk cliffs and beech forests together form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
