Overview

Three countries, three mountain regions, one unforgettable cycling journey. This 11-day self-guided route crosses the Alps from Munich through Bavaria, the Austrian Inn Valley, and the stunning landscapes of South Tyrol, arriving at the shimmering shores of Lake Garda. It is one of the great European cycling journeys, and Eurobike's careful routing makes it entirely achievable.

From Munich, you ride south past Lake Starnberg and the Zugspitze to the Inn Valley. The one major climb — over the Reschen Pass — is comfortably bypassed by bus transfer from Landeck to Nauders, from where the descent into South Tyrol is a glorious 1,200 metres of downhill cycling. Castles, vineyards, apple orchards, and the elegant spa town of Merano follow, before the route drops along the South Tyrolean Wine Route to Lake Garda.

Daily stages range from 27 to 44 miles. The route uses well-maintained bike paths and quiet side roads, with only brief stretches on main roads. Most surfaces are paved, with some well-maintained gravel sections. Accommodation is in 3-star hotels throughout, with a 4-star hotel in Munich.

Tour difficulty

A comfortable mix of flat sections and light hills with manageable daily distances. Suited to riders who want a balanced and enjoyable trip that requires moderate effort and basic cycling fitness.
