Overview

A short, linear ride through the Veneto, starting in Vicenza, city of the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, and finishing in the lagoon city of Venice. Along the way you'll pass through Bassano del Grappa, famous for its covered wooden bridge and grappa distilleries, and the hill town of Asolo before arriving at Treviso and, finally, Mestre on the Venice mainland.

How to get there

Getting to Vicenza

By plane: Vicenza has no airport of its own. Verona Villafranca (VRN) is the closest, around an hour away, with British Airways and easyJet flights from the UK; a shuttle bus runs to Verona Porta Nuova station, followed by a 20-30 minute train to Vicenza. Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is a similarly practical alternative, roughly 90 minutes away via bus and train through Venice Mestre.

By train: Vicenza sits on the main Milan-Venice line, with frequent direct trains from Verona Porta Nuova (around 25 minutes) and Venice Santa Lucia (around 50 minutes).

Getting home from Venice (Mestre)

By plane: Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) has direct flights to most UK airports with British Airways, easyJet and others. From Mestre, the airport is reached by bus or train in around 20-25 minutes.

By train: Mestre station has frequent connections back down the line to Vicenza, Verona and Milan if you need to reach a different departure airport.
