    Arrival in Lindau

    Welcome to Lindau, an enchanting lakeside town nestled on the shores of Lake Constance. This island town exudes a relaxed holiday charm, with its winding cobblestone streets, flower-decked promenades and views that stretch across the glistening lake to the distant peaks of the Alps.

    After checking in, spend your afternoon exploring the highlights of Lindau at your own pace. Wander to the famous harbour, where the majestic Bavarian Lion statue stands proudly beside the lighthouse. The views from here are spectacular, especially as the sun begins to dip below the horizon. Take a gentle stroll through the historic old town, where pastel façades, boutique shops and inviting cafés create a welcoming atmosphere. How to get there

Getting to Friedrichshafen / Lake Constance (start and end of tour)

By plane: Friedrichshafen Airport (FDH) has direct seasonal flights from UK airports with easyJet from Gatwick and Lufthansa from Heathrow, primarily running between December and March. During the summer cycling season, the most practical options are Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport (EAP, around 1 hour away) with easyJet and Ryanair from UK airports, or Zurich Airport (ZRH, around 1 hour away), which has extensive UK connections. The airport is just 3km from the city centre.

By train: Basel SBB station is around 1 hour from Friedrichshafen by regional train, and is a major international rail hub with connections from Paris and Zurich. From the UK, take the Eurostar to Paris, then TGV Lyria to Basel (3 hours), then regional rail to Friedrichshafen.

By car: Friedrichshafen sits on the A96 motorway near the Swiss and Austrian borders. From Calais, allow around 7 to 8 hours via the A26, A4 and A5. Stuttgart is around 2 hours to the north and Zurich around 1.5 hours to the south.
