How to get there

Getting to the Rhine Valley (Frankfurt or train via Paris)

By plane to Frankfurt: Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is Germany's largest international hub, with direct flights from all UK airports on British Airways, Lufthansa, easyJet and Ryanair. Frankfurt is around 1 hour by train from Neustadt an der Weinstraße, the heart of the Rhine wine route. The Airport Express train runs from the airport to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in 15 minutes, with ICE connections south towards Mainz and Neustadt.

By train: From London St Pancras, take the Eurostar to Paris Gare du Nord or Brussels, then connect onward. Paris to Strasbourg takes around 1 hour 45 minutes by TGV, and from Strasbourg regional trains connect into the Rhine Palatinate region in under an hour. Alternatively, take the Eurostar to Brussels and connect to Cologne and the Rhine Valley — a particularly scenic rail approach.

By car: Frankfurt is around 600km from Calais, taking approximately 5.5 hours via the A26 and E35 motorways. The Rhine Valley is around 1 hour south of Frankfurt on the A5/A61.
