The River Rhine - Vineyards & Cathedrals

Begin your wine-themed cycling holiday in Neustadt, the secret wine capital of Germany. Wander its winding lanes, visit the striking abbey church, and snap a photo at the quirky Elwedritschenbrunnen fountain.

Leave the vineyards behind and ride through the Rhine plain to the cathedral city of Speyer, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there, continue to Schwetzingen Palace with its lush gardens before ending the day in the romantic university city of Heidelberg.

Follow the Neckar River to the ancient Roman town of Ladenburg, known for its half-timbered houses. Then cruise through the Rhine valley to Worms, home to a grand imperial cathedral, the Martin Luther monument, and Europe’s oldest Jewish cemetery.

Enjoy a shorter stage with time to soak in the local wine culture. Pass through Bobenheim, the start of the German Wine Route, and finish in the picturesque wine town of Grünstadt.

Visit Bad Dürkheim, home to the world’s largest wine barrel, and enjoy another tasting. In Deidesheim, the medieval town hall hosts a fascinating wine museum. Ride the so-called “Balcony of the Pfalz” back to Neustadt, completing your loop.
