From the lively streets of Neustadt an der Weinstraße to the half-timbered charm of Rüdesheim, you’ll follow the mighty Rhine and its tributaries past Speyer, Worms, and Mainz - each crowned with its own imperial cathedral.
This tour blends easy cycling with rewarding stops: charming towns, vineyard views, wine tastings, ferry crossings, and iconic landmarks like the world’s largest wine barrel. Discover why this region is a dream for lovers of wine, history, and relaxed exploration.

Begin your wine-themed cycling holiday in Neustadt, the secret wine capital of Germany. Wander its winding lanes, visit the striking abbey church, and snap a photo at the quirky Elwedritschenbrunnen fountain.
Leave the vineyards behind and ride through the Rhine plain to the cathedral city of Speyer, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there, continue to Schwetzingen Palace with its lush gardens before ending the day in the romantic university city of Heidelberg.
Follow the Neckar River to the ancient Roman town of Ladenburg, known for its half-timbered houses. Then cruise through the Rhine valley to Worms, home to a grand imperial cathedral, the Martin Luther monument, and Europe’s oldest Jewish cemetery.
Cycle along scenic paths beside the old Rhine channels, passing riverside villages and reaching Oppenheim, famed for its Gothic architecture and wine. Cross the river by ferry to Nierstein, where a wine tasting awaits.
Ride through vineyards to Mainz, capital of Rhineland-Palatinate and home to a stunning cathedral and the Gutenberg Museum. Cross the Rhine again and finish in Rüdesheim, where a cable car ride over the vineyards offers unforgettable views.
Cross back over the Rhine to Bingen, where the rivers Nahe and Rhine meet. Visit historic sites like the Mäuseturm and Brückenkapelle, then pedal up and down through vineyard-covered hills to Alzey, where a sommelier-led wine tasting awaits at your wine hotel.
Enjoy a shorter stage with time to soak in the local wine culture. Pass through Bobenheim, the start of the German Wine Route, and finish in the picturesque wine town of Grünstadt.
Visit Bad Dürkheim, home to the world’s largest wine barrel, and enjoy another tasting. In Deidesheim, the medieval town hall hosts a fascinating wine museum. Ride the so-called “Balcony of the Pfalz” back to Neustadt, completing your loop.
Your tour ends today, but you’re welcome to stay longer and sample more of the Palatinate’s wine, cuisine, and hospitality—or explore nearby destinations like the Rhine Gorge or Alsace.
