Bruges makes an unbeatable base for a short cycling break — all cobbled streets, quiet canals and chocolate shops, with some genuinely peaceful countryside on its doorstep. Rather than one long linear route, this holiday is built around four separate day loops that all start and end in Bruges, so you can ride them in whichever order suits you, with a different hotel style to choose for each stay.
One day takes you to the moated castles around Torhout and Wijnendale, another to the picturesque town of Damme and the coast at Knokke, a third to the polder village of Lissewege and the Belle Époque resort of De Haan, and a fourth along the Bruges-Ghent canal to the old Van Male Abbey and the woodland of Bulskampveld. Choose from three hotels in the heart of Bruges, from a comfortable base with a garden to a canalside spot with its own spa.

Arrive in Bruges and check in to Hotel Velotel, a comfortable hotel with a terrace and garden just outside the centre, right on the cycle point network. Take the rest of the day to explore the historic centre at your own pace. Overnight in Bruges.
A loop out to two very different castles: d'Aertrycke, built in 1869, and Wijnendale Castle, with a history stretching back eight centuries. Overnight in Bruges.
Ride to some of Flanders' most picturesque villages, above all Damme, loved for its beautiful historic centre, good food and interesting sights, before continuing to the coast at Knokke. Overnight in Bruges.
Visit Lissewege, a charming polder village with a small canal running through its centre, then continue to De Haan, known for its beautifully preserved Belle Époque architecture. Overnight in Bruges.
Follow the Bruges-Ghent canal to the Van Male Abbey, once the main castle of the Count of Flanders, then loop through the parkland and nature around Bulskampveld. Overnight in Bruges.
Depart after breakfast.
We recommend flying to Brussels Airport (Zaventem) and returning from Brussels Airport (Zaventem).
