Highlights
Description
This gentle Burgundy break brings you into the world of Beaune, the proud capital of Burgundy wines, and Vougeot, home to the iconic Clos de Vougeot.
You’ll meet the region’s essentials at a relaxed pace. Think Hospices de Beaune. Clos de Vougeot. Rows of vines that seem to stretch on forever. And in between, lighthearted stops that bring the area’s flavours to life, like the last family-run mustard mill or a small red-fruit farm where blackcurrants, raspberries and blackberries become liqueurs, jams and sweet little discoveries.
It’s a short escape, but it lingers with you for a long time.
Arrive in Beaune and settle into your hotel. When you’re ready, collect your roadbook and maps and wander into town. Beaune is easy to fall for, with its cobbled lanes, wine shops and the famous patterned roof tiles of the Hospices just a short walk away.
Example hotel - Hostellerie de la Bretonnière
A circular ride today takes you south around the Côte de Beaune. The route is gentle and full of character, weaving past the vineyards of Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Santenay and both Chassagne and Puligny Montrachet.
You can dip into a winery or two, taste local cheeses or simply take your time as you roll back toward Beaune on the peaceful wine road.
Today you drift north, crossing from the Côte de Beaune into the Côte de Nuits. The scenery shifts as you go, with long runs between legendary parcels of vines. It’s the kind of ride where you catch yourself slowing down just to soak it all in.
Example hotel - Hostellerie St Vincent
A beautiful loop through the heart of Burgundy’s Grand Cru territory. You’ll ride past Clos de Vougeot and follow the Route des Grands Crus to Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin. Wine tasting is very much part of the day if you fancy it.
Families can stop at a small farm that produces organic red-fruit jams, creams and liqueurs. It’s simple, wholesome and always a hit with children.
After breakfast, your journey comes to an end. You can easily catch a train back to Beaune or Dijon if needed.
We recommend flying to Paris and returning from Paris.
