A capital-to-capital route with real substance to it: from Strasbourg, you follow the Marne-Rhine Canal and La Voie Bleue north through the Lorraine Regional Nature Park, taking in Nancy's Place Stanislas and Metz's cathedral, before EuroVelo 5 carries you on into Luxembourg City.
It's a considered way to see a part of France that's often passed over for its better-known neighbours, and a genuinely satisfying finish - arriving somewhere entirely different from where you began.

Arrive in Strasbourg with time to explore the Gothic cathedral and historic centre.
Follow the Marne-Rhine Canal towpath past Brumath and Hochfelden to Saverne and its Rohan Castle.
Ride via the Saint-Louis-Arzviller inclined plane, a unique boat lift, to Sarrebourg and Marc Chagall's Peace Window, then train onward to Lunéville.
Pass the Varangéville salt mine before reaching Nancy and its UNESCO-listed Place Stanislas.
Follow La Voie Bleue along the Moselle via Pont-à-Mousson to Metz and its Saint-Étienne Cathedral.
Ride the Moselle Iron Ore Canal past the Roman aqueduct at Jouy-aux-Arches and through Thionville to Schengen.
Follow EuroVelo 5 and the SaarLorLux route past Remich's vineyards to Luxembourg City's old town.
