Leisurely

This is one of the most straightforward and rewarding ways to experience Alsace by bike.
Over five days, you follow a gentle route from Strasbourg to Colmar, linking together vineyard covered hillsides, half-timbered villages and some of the region’s most recognisable towns. It’s a journey that feels relaxed from the outset, with well-developed cycle paths and manageable distances allowing time to stop, explore and take in the surroundings.
The route builds naturally. You begin along the Bruche canal, a quiet introduction that leads out of Strasbourg and into the countryside. From there, the vineyards take over. Villages appear one after another, each with their own character, from the Romanesque charm of Rosheim to the colourful streets of Riquewihr.
Food and wine are never far away. This is a region where the riding and the experience go hand in hand, and where a long lunch or a spontaneous tasting often becomes part of the day.
It’s a short trip, but one that captures the essence of Alsace.

Arrive in Strasbourg and settle into your hotel. The city’s historic centre is compact and easy to explore, with its Gothic cathedral and canal lined streets offering a strong first impression of the region.
Leave Strasbourg along the Bruche canal, once used to transport wine into the city. The route is flat and peaceful, following the water through open countryside. Along the way, you pass Molsheim and the Roman church of Rosheim before arriving in Obernai or nearby Andlau, both known for their traditional Alsatian character.
Today the vineyards take over. The route weaves through a series of villages, each with its own feel. Mittelbergheim, Dambach-la-Ville and Ribeauvillé all offer reasons to stop, whether for a walk, a tasting or simply to take in the surroundings. Riquewihr, your destination, is one of the most recognisable villages in the region.
Continue along the Wine Route towards Colmar. Turckheim and Eguisheim are highlights along the way, both known for their well-preserved centres and strong sense of place. Arriving in Colmar, you’ll find a lively town with canals, markets and a long artistic heritage.
Depart after breakfast or extend your stay in Colmar.
We recommend flying to Strasbourg and returning from Strasbourg.
