Athens is more than a starting point. The city has been transformed in recent years — the Acropolis Museum is world-class, the Monastiraki district hums with life well into the night, and the street food scene has never been better. Even a single evening here, walking up to the Acropolis as the sun drops behind the Saronic Gulf, sets the tone for a very different kind of holiday.
The Saronic Islands and Peloponnese coast that our tours explore from Athens are far less visited than the Aegean islands. Hydra has no motor vehicles at all. Spetses is compact and car-free in summer. The Peloponnese coastline offers ancient ruins, Byzantine churches and fishing villages that haven't changed much in centuries — and all of it is reached by private boat from Piraeus, just 20 minutes by Metro from the city centre.
Athens and the surrounding Attica region have a classic Mediterranean climate — hot, dry summers and mild winters. The cycling season runs from April to October. The Saronic coastline and island routes are mostly flat to gently rolling, with some hillier terrain on the Peloponnese peninsula.

April to June and September to October strike the best balance of warm weather, clear skies and manageable crowds. July and August are hot and very busy at the major sites.
