Guided cycling holiday
Ionian Islands, Greece
Embark on a unique cycling and sailing adventure around mainland Greece and the Ionian Islands. This eight-day journey from Athens to Corfu blends ancient history, vibrant island culture, and stunning coastal landscapes.
Travelling aboard the two-masted motor sailer Panagiota, you'll explore Greece by bike and boat, visiting pistachio-laden Aegina, the ancient sanctuary of Delphi, and the iconic Corinth Canal. Then, island-hop through Ithaca, Meganisi, Lefkas and Paxos before ending in Corfu.
Cycle through traditional villages, along mountain roads and beside turquoise coastlines. Take in centuries-old temples, hillside monasteries, and lush olive groves. Swim in hidden coves, relax on deck between rides, and enjoy authentic Greek cuisine both on board and ashore.
Daily rides range from 11 to 22 miles, with e-bikes available. You can also choose to stay aboard on any given day. Whether you're a keen cyclist or a relaxed explorer, this tour offers an unforgettable Greek escape.
Great for active riders ready for rolling hills and longer days in the saddle—offering both challenge and beautiful scenery.

Guests arrive individually at Marina Zeas, located in Piraeus, the historic port city just outside of Athens. Boarding on the Panagiota, a traditional wooden motor yacht, is available from 2:00 pm. Once settled into your cabin, there's time to explore the harbour and meet your fellow travellers. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner on board, hosted by the crew and tour guides, followed by an overnight stay in the calm waters of Piraeus harbour.
After breakfast, we cruise to Aegina, a charming island renowned for its pistachio orchards and neoclassical architecture. Our first ride begins here, following coastal roads and quiet inland lanes to the Temple of Aphaia, beautifully perched on a hilltop with expansive views of the Aegean Sea. This ancient site dates back to around 500 BC and is remarkably well preserved.
After returning to the ship, we set sail through the dramatic Corinth Canal, a narrow, hand-cut waterway that links the Aegean to the Gulf of Corinth. It is an engineering feat, cutting a path through solid rock and dramatically shortening the maritime journey around the Peloponnese. Weather permitting, we continue sailing to Galaxidi, a quiet harbour town on the mainland. If not, we overnight closer to Corinth.
This day is dedicated to culture and history. In the morning, we travel by coach inland to the archaeological site of Delphi, set against the stunning backdrop of Mount Parnassus. Once considered the centre of the ancient world, Delphi was home to the oracle of Apollo and holds great significance in Greek mythology and heritage. The site includes the Temple of Apollo, the ancient theatre, treasuries, and a stadium, all nestled into a dramatic mountain landscape.
In the afternoon, we stop in Nafpaktos, a picturesque harbour town with a Venetian fortress and stone-built harbour walls. There's free time to stroll the promenade or enjoy lunch in a seaside taverna. A short coach transfer then brings us to Mesolongi, where the Panagiota awaits. Dinner and overnight stay on board.
After an early breakfast, the Panagiota sets off on a longer crossing toward Ithaca, a lush and rugged island steeped in myth as the home of Odysseus. If weather permits, the boat will anchor en route for a refreshing swim stop. By midday, we reach the port of Vathy, a colourful waterfront town nestled in a deep natural bay.
In the afternoon, we set off on a scenic cycling route that explores Ithaca’s hilly terrain, quiet roads, and traditional villages. Though some climbs are involved, e-bikes are available for extra ease. The reward is a series of stunning vistas overlooking the Ionian Sea, olive groves, and rocky coves. This ride truly showcases the peaceful charm of the island, far removed from the tourist trail. After the ride, there’s time to relax with a drink by the harbour or take a short walk before dinner. Overnight stay in Vathy.
This morning’s crossing takes us to Meganisi, a tranquil island just east of Lefkas. After docking, we cycle along quiet, rolling roads that wind through olive groves and whitewashed villages. The route includes visits to three of the island’s main settlements, where traditional architecture and slow island life give you a real sense of local culture. We stop at Spartochori beach for a break, where you can swim in clear turquoise water or enjoy coffee at a seaside café.
In the afternoon, we continue by boat to Nidri on Lefkas. For those who wish, an optional short ride leads inland through olive fields to a hidden waterfall, a peaceful spot tucked away from the crowds. You can choose to cycle there and walk the final path to the falls or simply enjoy a relaxed evening in Nidri. Dinner is on board or in town, depending on the day’s programme.

The route takes us through rugged terrain with sweeping views over the island and sea. A highlight is the stop in Karia, a lively mountain village known for its traditional embroidery and relaxed atmosphere. Here, we enjoy a well-earned coffee break before descending towards Lefkas Town, where the boat awaits.
In the afternoon, we begin our crossing to Paxos, one of the smallest and most beautiful of the Ionian Islands. This longer sail offers time to relax on deck, read, or nap as the boat glides across open waters. By early evening, we arrive in Gaios, Paxos’ charming harbour town. Narrow alleyways, bougainvillaea-covered homes, and waterfront tavernas await. You’re free to explore on your own or join the group for dinner ashore.ional architecture and slow island life give you a real sense of local culture. This morning’s ride loops around Paxos, offering a peaceful conclusion to the cycling portion of the tour. The route passes through ancient olive groves, small villages, and coastal roads with frequent sea views. Paxos is known for its gentle terrain, and today’s pace is relaxed, with time built in for photo stops and a swim at one of the island’s many beaches. The silvery-green colour of the olive trees, set against the blue of the sea, makes this one of the most photogenic rides of the week.
After returning to Gaios, we board the Panagiota for the final sail to Corfu. As we approach the island, you'll spot the Venetian forts and pastel buildings of Corfu Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The evening concludes with a farewell dinner on board, a chance to celebrate the week’s journey with new friends, the crew, and your guides.
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to the Panagiota and its crew. Disembarkation takes place in Corfu Town, where you’re free to explore the old city or transfer to the airport for your onward journey. Alternatively, consider extending your stay on Corfu to enjoy more of its beaches, cultural sites, and local cuisine.
Flights are not included with this holiday, but we recommend flying to Athens International Airport (ATH) and returning from Athens International Airpor (ATH).
The Panagiota is an affectionately restored two-masted motor yacht. She has six cabins below deck, and four cabins above deck, all of which have a small bathroom, air conditioning and a French bed. Some have an extra bunk bed, which means a great accommodation for a family vacation. In the spacious and typical Mediterranean-style saloon, there are tables and chairs where you can enjoy breakfast and dinner, and sit and relax when it’s a little chilly outside. But you will probably spend most of your time, when not cycling, on the rear deck or spacious sun deck.
