This relaxed cycling tour follows the Vltava and Elbe River from Prague to Dresden, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and gentle adventure. Designed as one of our easiest routes, this journey features shorter daily distances, mostly flat terrain, and breathtaking scenery.
Begin in the Czech capital and ride through river valleys, vineyards, and medieval towns. Explore the fairytale castles of Central Bohemia, the lush landscapes of the Czech Middle Mountains, and the otherworldly sandstone formations of the Czech-Saxon Switzerland National Park. Walk beneath Pravčická brána, the largest natural rock arch in Europe, and visit historical sites such as Terezín Fortress and Germany’s mighty Königstein.
Conclude your journey in Dresden, a city that vividly reflects both the cultural prosperity and the turbulent history of Germany. This tour is ideal for those seeking light cycling, scenic hiking, and rich historical insight - all at a comfortable pace.

Leave Prague on a scenic riverside ride past Troja Castle, following the Vltava northward through rocky river valleys and Czech wine country. Visit castles in Nelahozeves or Veltrusy before arriving in Mělník, a picturesque town perched above the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers.
Cycle through the fertile lowlands of the Elbe River with barely any elevation change. The day’s highlight is the imposing Terezín Fortress, a sobering site once used as a concentration camp during WWII. End the day in Litoměřice, a spiritual and architectural gem of the region.
Ride through the Czech Middle Mountains, a landscape shaped by extinct volcanoes. The route remains flat as it hugs the Elbe, surrounded by dramatic peaks and castle ruins. Arrive in Děčín, a town dominated by its hilltop chateau and Elbe riverside setting.
Today is all about Czech-Saxon Switzerland National Park. Choose between a short bike ride or boat journey to Hřensko, then spend the day hiking among sandstone rock towers, gorges, and forest trails. Don't miss Pravčická brána, Europe's largest natural stone arch.
Cycle along the scenic Elbe through Germany, stopping at the formidable Königstein Fortress and the striking Bastei rock bridge. Pass through Pirna and roll into Dresden, a city of grand architecture, art, and a powerful WWII legacy.

Getting to the start (Prague)
By plane: Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) has direct flights from most UK airports, with British Airways from London Heathrow, Ryanair from London Stansted, Wizz Air from Gatwick and Luton, and easyJet from Gatwick. Flight time is around 2 hours. The airport is 17km from the city centre, with an express bus to the metro in around 30 minutes.
By train: Prague is accessible by overnight Nightjet train from Vienna and other Central European hubs. From London, flying is strongly recommended as the overland journey takes the best part of a day.
Getting home from the tour (Dresden)
By plane: Dresden Airport (DRS) has connecting flights to UK airports via Lufthansa hubs (Frankfurt, Munich). Alternatively, take a bus or train from Dresden to Prague (around 2 hours by FlixBus or EC train) and fly home from Prague’s better-connected airport.
By train: Dresden Hauptbahnhof has direct EC train services to Prague (around 2 hours 15 minutes), Berlin (around 2 hours) and Frankfurt (around 4.5 hours), all of which have good UK flight connections.
