Touring Bike
£56 for 4 days

The express version of the classic Tuscan ride: four days on the bike from the Leaning Tower to the Ponte Vecchio, winding through vineyards, olive groves and the grand villas of the Lucchesia countryside. Stop in walled Lucca, the spa town of Montecatini, fairy-tale Collodi (home of Pinocchio) and the medieval flower market of Pescia before finishing in Renaissance Florence.
Mostly flat with some hilly sections that don’t need special training, largely on low-traffic back roads with short unpaved stretches. Trains shadow the route daily, so any stage can be shortened.
Arrive in Pisa and explore the Piazza dei Miracoli with its famous Leaning Tower and Romanesque cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The lively university-town atmosphere and waterfront Arno views make a relaxed start to the tour.
Follow the Serchio River north through the Pisan countryside to the walled city of Lucca, with an optional hillier detour via Lake Massaciuccoli. Inside Lucca’s Renaissance walls, explore the shady tree-top promenade, the elliptical Piazza dell’Anfiteatro and the Romanesque churches.
Ride along the Serchio cycle path, then climb gently through the green Lucchesia hills past grand patrician villas and their gardens. Pass through Collodi — home of Pinocchio — and the medieval flower town of Pescia before arriving in Montecatini Terme, one of Europe’s most famous spa towns.
Choose to ride directly from Montecatini (a scenic 6 km climb through olive groves to Monsummano) or shorten with a quick train hop to Pistoia. From Pistoia, follow country roads and nursery gardens to the Arno at Signa, then an unpaved riverside path leads straight to the Ponte Vecchio in the heart of Florence.
Depart after breakfast — or stay on to explore Florence’s galleries, palaces and gelaterie further.
We recommend flying to Pisa Airport (PSA) and returning from Florence Airport (FLR).

Getting to Pisa
By plane: Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA) is one of Tuscany’s main gateways, just 2 km from the city centre with wide international connections. A short bus, taxi or even a walk gets you into town.
By train: Pisa Centrale is well connected, with fast trains from Florence (about 1 hour), Rome (about 2.5 hours), and Genoa, plus a direct shuttle from the airport station in under 5 minutes.
By car: Pisa sits on the A11 (Florence–coast) and A12 (Genoa–Livorno) motorways, making it easy to reach from most directions.
Getting home from Florence
By plane: Florence Peretola Airport (FLR) is about 20 minutes from the city centre, with connections across Europe though the network is smaller than Pisa’s. Pisa PSA (about 1 hour by direct train) and Bologna BLQ (about 40 minutes by high-speed rail) are the larger alternatives with wider route coverage.
By train: Firenze Santa Maria Novella is a major hub, with high-speed services to Rome (1.5 hours), Milan (1 hour 40), Bologna, Venice and beyond, plus the direct link back to Pisa in about 1 hour.
By car: Florence lies on the A1 (Milan–Rome) motorway. As the tour finishes in a different city from the start, a car left in Pisa is about an hour’s drive or a quick train ride away — many riders find the train simpler.
